Victory in Klagenfurt

Daniela Ryf wins at her first participation of the Ironman Austria in Klagenfurt. For the 3.8 km swimming, 180 km cycling and 42.2 km running the 32-year-old from Solothurn needs 8:52:20 hours. The four-time Ironman World Champion finished 26:35 minutes earlier than the second-placed native Biana Scheurer. That's remarkable, because she didn't do everything optimally at all.

"I missed the refreshment stand while running and at times had the feeling that I was running almost like in a delirium. Of course such an accident can happen. But that really wasn't good and will be a lesson to me," explains Ryf after her race.

Only five weeks after the victory at the 70.3 Switzerland in Rapperswil-Jona, the form curve is increasing clearly: "I couldn't push the bike as hard as I wanted at the end. And while running, my energy storage completely emptied itself. Nevertheless, all in all I'm further than I was a few weeks ago. I was also able to enjoy the competition. The course was very nice, the spectators excellent."

Daniela now travels back to her training camp in St. Moritz where she prepares for the title defence in mid-October in Hawaii. Before that she wants to start on July 25th at the long-distance triathlon up to Alpe d'Huez. "I want to take part in the Spirit Tri Series with my team “Daniela Ryf Birds” and I'm already looking forward to my team colleagues.
