New «Spirit Tri Series» with Daniela Ryf

Spirit Multisport Announces Professional Triathlon Teams as part of European League Athletes to compete as part of Spirit Tri Series.

Spirit Multisport has today announced the details of six professional triathlon teams who will compete as part of a European Long Distance Series, consisting of iconic triathlon events across four countries. The series will see the addition of six teams, featuring professional, development professional and age group triathletes, competing for points across all events. Spirit Multisport CEO, Tom Sutton, said 'We're very proud of the professional roster we'll present in 2019. It consists not only of very good athletes, including multiple professional Ironman and national champions, but good human beings, who will represent our brands in an exemplary way.'

The professional teams, consisting of 24 athletes (12 male, 12 female) competing for prize money bonuses 12 deep, will feature athletes wearing custom team kits across Series events, with responsibilities to support junior events and grassroots triathlon outreach.

Spirit Multisport Co-Founder, Nicola Spirig, said: “Our goal is to to provide some structure to the current professional and age group triathlon landscape. At present, especially in long distance triathlon, we see few opportunities for professional athlete development, as well as many teams operating in an isolated environment. We believe the sport will benefit by competing with each other in a meaningful way with a shared purpose. In our first year we want to show the League framework, before opening up to more professional teams and clubs in the future. "

4 time Ironman World Champion and Team Manager for the 'DR Birds Race Team', Daniela Ryf, said: "This is a great opportunity to support four talented and hard working athletes to follow their dreams in sport. Through the series and team I also look forward to engaging with my age group fans and joining with them at events, and showing how inspiring triathlon can be for people to live healthy lifestyles."

The series will hold an official press conference at its first event, the International Portocolom Triathlon event in April, and will be releasing details on major sponsorship and partnership initiatives over the coming months.
