Joining the Breitling Triathlon Squad on a trip to South Africa

This is the off-season. Since Kona, Daniela has spent the last few weeks recovering from the stresses and strains of last season, resting her body and mind in the process while also moving into a new home. After a disruption of plans due to Covid, the Solothurn native is now looking forward to her upcoming trip to South Africa.

Together with the «Breitling Triathlon Squad», Daniela will accompany her partner Breitling to Swellendam on November 26, where they’ll be taking part in the Mutual Wealth Double Century, a one-day road race, covering nearly 200 km of distance. The backdrop to her participation is a partnership between Breitling and the South African organization Qhubeka, which has made it its mission to distribute bicycles to people in remote areas with limited transport infrastructure, thereby giving them access to schools, hospitals, services and jobs.

Since the beginning of the partnership, Breitling and the triathlon squad feat. Daniela have participated in the Mutual Wealth Double Century on an annual basis, supporting Qhubeka’s important cause. Just last year, the accelerated distribution of approximately 4,000 bicycles to eleven schools reduced the local dropout rate by 100%. A stunning result and success, one which Qhubeka hopes to build on when they aim to distribute even more bicycles in 2022.
