Eighth victory of Daniela Ryf in Rapperswil-Jona
Daniela Ryf remains invincible at the Ironman 70.3 in Rapperswil-Jona. Daniela triumphed at the upper Lake Zurich over the 1.9 km swim, 90 km bike and 21.1 km run for the eighth time since 2014 and left Australian Ashleigh Gentle no chance in her renewed success. Third place went to Anne Reischmann of Germany.
Daniela struggled with stomach problems for several weeks after her elimination from the PTO Open in Ibiza and was fortunately able to really push the pace again for the first time in Rapperswil. The ten-time world champion showed this impressively on the bike course. There, Daniela provided the preliminary decision when she took more than six minutes off her direct rival Ashleigh Gentle. The Australian (4:06:56) was able to make up four minutes in the half marathon, but Daniela's (4:04:06) eighth victory in Rapperswil was nevertheless no longer in danger. «This victory in front of the home crowd and in front of my family and friends really means a lot to me. My form is right and that also makes me very confident», said a beaming Daniela at the finish line.
