Daniela Ryf to retire at the end of 2024

Daniela Ryf will compete in her last season as a professional triathlete in 2024. The 36-year-old from Solothurn and ten-time Ironman and Ironman 70.3 world champion wants to devote herself to new projects in the future. This is not just the departure of a great athlete, but also of a legend who has rewritten the history of triathlon.

For Daniela Ryf, an impressive and long career is coming to an end after 24 years of top-class sport. «It is with mixed feelings that I am announcing my retirement today. After many years of focus and dedication to this sport, it is time for me to turn over a new leaf. I can proudly say that I have achieved everything I have ever dreamed of. With the tenth World Championship title in 2021 and the world record last year, I have crowned my greatest successes. Retiring a year after these milestones is a nice way for me to finish,» says Daniela Ryf.

Planning the farewell season

The planning for the farewell season has been finalized. Daniela Ryf will take part in the new PTO (Professional Triathletes Organization) world championship series, the T100 series.

«I want to do my best this season, win a big race and enjoy it. With the T100 series and the Ironman World Championships in Nice, I have an exciting year ahead of me with high-level races.»

Ryf has deliberately chosen a year with many races so that she can share her farewell year with as many fans as possible. «It's time for something new. I loved getting the best out of myself each time. And I am incredibly grateful for what I have been able to experience and achieve. I've met great people and made friends for life. This sport has given and taught me so much.»

Daniela Ryf plans to remain active, but is looking forward to no longer training three times a day. «I'm not going to disappear from the scene. My goal is to inspire people to move and be active.» Daniela is already working on new projects with existing and new partners. Most conversations revolve around getting people to enjoy and be motivated to exercise. «There are so many new and exciting things in the future, I'm looking forward to it.»

  • From 2015 to 2018, Daniela Ryf won the world's toughest triathlon in Hawaii four times in a row

  • In 2022, Ryf won her fifth world championship title in St. George (USA). She also triumphed five times at the world championship over the Ironman 70.3 distance (2014, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2022)

  • In both disciplines, Daniela Ryf also achieved something that no triathlete had managed before her. The victories once again demonstrated not only Ryf's physical strength, but also her ability to compete equally successfully in both long and middle distance races.

  • The two-time Swiss Sportswoman of the Year set the latest milestone last June with her world record at Challenge Roth. In 8:08:21 hours, Ryf beat the twelve-year-old mark set by Britain's Chrissie Wellington by around ten minutes.
