Daniela Ryf to race the TIME Triathlon Alpe d'Huez for the first time
On 25 July 2019 Daniela Ryf will start for the first time at the TIME Triathlon Alpe d'Huez in France. The myth of the Alpe d'Huez, world-famous from the Tour de France and 21 legendary hairpin bends on an 1120-meter-long track, seems the perfect challenge for Daniela Ryf.
However, it was the opportunity to compete beside her team, the «Daniela Ryf Birds» that confirmed her decision. Together with Baptiste Neveu, Flora Colledge, Sarah Straub and Arnaud Margot, Ryf will be able to test herself on the tough course and also motivate her team, one of six teams in the European Triathlon League. The teams are competing for points across four events in the Spirit Tri Series.
Ryf said: «I am very proud to be competing alongside my teammates in this triathlon. The series and this race are about supporting young athletes and building grass roots triathlon in Europe – something that I support 100 percent.»
The Daniela Ryf Birds have already competed in two events in the Spirit Tri Series this year, the first in Portocolom, Mallorca and the second in Chiemsee, Germany. The TIME Alpe D'Huez Triathlon is the third race of the series. With 3000 points from the first two races the Daniela Ryf Birds are currently in fifth position. The final competition of the four-part Spirit Tri Series will be the Trans Vorarlberg Triathlon in Vorarlberg in August.
Daniela Ryf to retire at the end of 2024
The 36-year-old from Solothurn and ten-time Ironman and Ironman 70.3 world champion wants to devote herself to new projects in the future.
