Daniela Ryf continues her successful season with a World Record at IM70.3 Gdynia

Triple 70.3 and Ironman World Champion Daniela Ryf remains unbeaten this season after a superior win in Gdynia, Poland yesterday. The 31-year-old from Solothurn, Switzerland came out of the water with a two and a half minute lead and continued to lead the race throughout the morning, finishing in a world record time of 3:57:56.

This result also placed her seventh overall including the men's and women's field and 22 minutes ahead of second placed woman, Miranda Carfrae from Australia. Like Ryf, Carfrae has won the Ironman World Championship in Hawaii three times. Ryf said: "Today, again, I'm happy with everything. The swim was good and on the bike course I was surrounded by men and could push the pace from the beginning. "The run also felt good without any problems so I'm happy to have invested a lot in running recently."

The only uncertainty before the race was whether Ryf could start with her material after her luggage was misplaced and didn't arrive until close to midnight the night before the race. For Ryf the race in Gdynia was her last form test before the 70.3 Ironman World Championship in Port Elizabeth, South Africa.  Ryf will defend her title at this event, to be held on September 1. On Monday she travels to St. Moritz and trains there for the last three weeks.

Carfrae's US husband Tim O'Donnell won the men's race in 3:47:41. Carfrae herself will be one of the challengers of defending champion Ryf at the Ironman World Championship on 13 October in Hawaii.
